Man's Wisdom Is Foolishness To God - I Corinthians 1:18
It is apparent that Paul wanted to deliver a strong message to the believers at Corinth. He used multiple contrasts to solidify his point. Paul wanted them to understand that the simplicity of the Cross was where they needed to begin and end. None of the traditions or philosophies they were trusting in and married to were of any spiritual worth. The ones he was addressing had clung so tightly to their erroneous beliefs that they could not see the real Wisdom of Truth.
I Corinthians 1:18 AMP For the story and message of the cross is sheer absuridity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition, but to us who are being saved it is the manifestation of the power of God.
Have you ever heard the testimony of two honestly truthful people who gave a totally different account of the same event? How we perceive is based on perspective. To those who put all their confidence in what they see, the Cross looked like a loss. It looked like a tragic display of failure and weakness. Those who only see through natural eyes and only understand with the natural mind have no capacity to perceive and receive spiritual truths. Those of us who are being saved have a kingdom view. To us the Cross is Victory! We believe and know what Jesus accomplished on the Cross for us. He was obedient unto death so we can live eternally with Him.
Just as it is today, the unbelievers were deceived by the thing they thought gave them preeminence. The unbelieving Jews felt they were superior because of their religious traditions. The Greeks thought they excelled above all others because of their mind exercises. Both persuasions are deceptive. Both disciplines weighed heavily on humanity's abilities. The Jews were entrenched in strict, complicated rituals. The Greeks were captivated by and entangled with a maze of supposed mental ascents.
Here we are 2000 years later and nothing has changed. Humanity is still intoxicated by its own aroma. Deception still misleads people who want to be convinced by what they see with their natural eyes. Many refuse to accept anything that doesn't make sense to their very limited and faulty sense of logic.
Please pray that the Spirit of God will cover the earth. Pray that people's hearts and minds will be drawn toward the things of God. Pray that Jesus will be invited to sit on the throne of our hearts without any competition. Amen.
