Is the Lord Serious About Ministry?

It is alarming to note how relaxed and self-promoting some people have become regarding the calling to the ministry. One of the reasons the Lord provides guidelines and directives is because He knows how easily human beings can become distracted and ease off course. We are fragile, finite creatures who, left to our own devices, will absolutely deteriorate in rapid fashion.

Genesis 6:5

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Proverbs 12:15

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.

Proverbs 21:2

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord ponders the hearts.

One reason God established laws to govern humanity is to protect us. When mankind governs himself he adopts self-destructive behaviors and patterns of living. We need parameters, boundaries and guidance. We don't always want them but we definitely need them.

Unless  we meditate on the eternal truth of God, we cannot know His purpose for our lives. If we don't know the purposes of God how can we fulfill them?

Where and how are we to access His instruction?

1. The Word of God, in book form, is readily available. The Bible. It is also accessible in almost every type of media: radio, tv, cd, cassette, computer, iphone, mp3 player, websites and so on.

2. Prayer. The Lord will speak to us as we pray and seek His face.

3. People. The Lord can speak through anyone: preachers, teachers, children, sisters, brothers. Listen and expect to hear His wisdom guiding your life.

4. Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is our Teacher, called alongside to help. He works with us, not against us.

Yes, He Is Serious - Look at what the Lord says through the prophet Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 23

Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the Lord, and because of the words of his holiness.

10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.

11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the Lord.

12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the Lord.

13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness; they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

15 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.
